I was born in Walthamstow, East London in 1956. I'm married to Penny and we have two daughters and two grand-daughters.
My management career eventually brought us to Derby where for 10 years I was Operations Director at Methodist Homes for the Aged. My response to the call to ordained ministry came relatively late, and after training at Queens and UTU I was stationed in Sheffield.
I was Superintendent of the former Brunswick Circuit. The mix of inner city, estate and suburban work has been a wonderful opportunity to explore aspects of Urban Theology and I have a special interest in working alongside Christians from other cultures and exploring how we might learn from one another. I have also been involved in a number of District initiatives including the Mission Review Group, Community Projects and Grants Committee.
Its good to be living somewhere where we can enjoy the 'great outdoors' so Penny and I try to get out into Derbyshire as often as the weather allows. We also enjoy our role as grandparents and keep in touch with family still living in Derby.
Phill has responsibility for developing partnerships with other organisations, churches, and Faith communities (including communication links with the media), and encouraging the development of local chaplaincy and community engagement across the new circuit.
